In most cases, there is no requirement to purchase a separate primer, saving you time and effort.

Experience excellent resistance against cracking, blistering, and flaking with Zinsser AllCoat Exterior. Its tough finish withstands rain, severe weather conditions, and offers exceptional colour retention. Additionally, the paint contains a biocide that protects the dried coating against fungal degradation. By removing any existing mould and mildew, applying two coats of AllCoat Exterior will ensure a bright and beautiful exterior that remains pristine for years to come.

Preparation Instructions for Zinsser Allcoat Exterior Water Based

Surface Inspection:

Ensure the surface is structurally sound, free from damage, and dry. Repair any cracks, holes, or imperfections before starting the painting process.

Surface Cleaning:

Thoroughly clean the surface to remove any dirt, dust, oil, grease, or other contaminants. This ensures proper adhesion and a uniform finish.

Degreasing:

For areas exposed to oils or heavy contamination, degrease the surface using an appropriate cleaner and allow it to dry completely. Rinse the surface with clean water if necessary and ensure no cleaning residues are left behind.

Moisture Check:

Ensure that all surfaces are completely dry before painting. Moisture or dampness may hinder the adhesion and overall performance of the coating. For best results, use a moisture meter to ensure the surface has a moisture content of less than 18%.

Temperature Conditions:

Apply the paint when the surface and air temperature are between 10°C and 25°C. Avoid application in conditions where humidity exceeds 85%, or if there is a risk of rain or frost before the paint has dried.

Masking and Protection:

Mask off adjacent areas that do not require painting, such as trim, fittings, or adjacent surfaces, to ensure clean and precise edges. Use protective sheets or covers to shield nearby objects from paint splashes.

Mixing the Paint:

Stir the Allcoat Exterior Water Based thoroughly with a stick or paddle before use. Continue stirring at intervals during application to maintain an even distribution of the finish.

By following these preparation steps, you will ensure a durable finish, ideal for areas exposed to heavy traffic. For optimal performance, always refer to the product’s technical data sheet and manufacturer’s guidelines.

Application Guidance for Zinsser Allcoat Exterior Water Based

Initial Coat Application:

Using a quality brush, roller, or spray equipment, apply the first coat of Zinsser Allcoat Exterior Water Based evenly across the prepared surface.

Coverage:

Apply the paint at the recommended coverage rate, which is typically around 12 square meters per litre, depending on the porosity and texture of the surface. Avoid over-applying the paint, as it may affect drying times and finish quality.

Edge and Detail Work:

Use a small brush to carefully cut in around edges, corners, and areas near walls or fixed structures.

Drying Time Between Coats:

Allow the first coat to dry for at least 1 hour before applying a second coat. The paint is touch-dry within 30 minutes, depending on temperature and humidity. Avoid knocks and scrapes on the freshly painted surface during this drying time to prevent damage to the finish.

Second Coat Application:

Apply a second coat of Allcoat Exterior Water Based to ensure maximum durability. Stir the paint thoroughly before application.

Follow the same application method as the first coat, taking care to cover any missed areas and ensure a uniform finish.

Post-Application Care:

Allow the painted surface to dry for a minimum of 12 hours before handling and using the painted surface. For areas subject to heavy machinery or equipment, wait at least 24 hours before use to ensure full curing. Avoid exposing the painted surface to water or heavy moisture for at least 24 hours after application to prevent discolouration or poor adhesion.

Tools and Equipment:

After completing the application, clean all brushes and equipment with water. Ensure that tools are thoroughly cleaned immediately after use to prevent the paint from hardening.

Temperature and Weather Conditions:

Do not apply the paint if rain is expected within 24 hours, or if the temperature is below 10°C or above 25°C during application and drying times. Protect the freshly painted surface from frost until fully dry.

By following this application guidance, you’ll achieve a professional finish that is both durable and effective in high-traffic areas. For additional details on the product and its specific uses, consult the technical data sheet provided by Zinsser.

Aftercare for Zinsser Allcoat Exterior Water Based

Initial Curing Period:

Allow the painted surface to fully cure before subjecting it to heavy use. While the paint is dry to the touch in 30 minutes, full curing may take up to 24 hours depending on conditions such as humidity and temperature.

Avoid dragging heavy objects or machinery across the surface during this curing period to prevent damage to the finish.

Regular Cleaning:

Clean the painted surface regularly to maintain its appearance. Use a soft-bristle brush or sponge along with a mild detergent solution. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaning tools, as these can damage the paint and reduce its effectiveness.

For large areas, power washing at low pressure can be used for cleaning. Ensure that no high-pressure jets are used directly on the surface to avoid wearing away the paint.

Preventing Damage:

Heavy impacts or dragging sharp or heavy objects across the painted surface may damage the coating. Use protective mats or padding where needed to minimize wear in high-use areas, especially where equipment is moved frequently.

Keep the surface free of debris such as dirt, gravel, or sand that could cause abrasion and premature wear of the coating.

Reapplication and Maintenance:

Over time, particularly in areas exposed to high traffic or machinery, the coating may reduce due to wear. Inspect the surface regularly and touch up any areas that show signs of wear or damage.

Reapply a fresh coat of Zinsser Allcoat Exterior Water Based to restore and refresh the appearance. Ensure that the surface is clean and dry before any reapplication.

Long-Term Protection:

For exterior surfaces, inspect the painted area after harsh weather conditions such as heavy rain or frost. If water or frost damage is evident, clean and dry the area thoroughly and consider reapplying a fresh coat to maintain durability.

If used in an area exposed to oil or chemicals, promptly clean spills to prevent staining or weakening of the paint’s adhesion.

Seasonal Maintenance:

In colder months, protect the surface from ice buildup by using non-corrosive de-icing agents. Avoid using salt or other de-icing chemicals that can degrade the paint over time.

Regularly inspect areas exposed to the elements for any signs of cracking, peeling, or wear, particularly after winter or periods of heavy use.

By following these aftercare steps, you will maintain the longevity, appearance, and effectiveness of Zinsser Allcoat Exterior Water Based, ensuring it continues to provide safe and durable protection on a variety of surfaces.
